It is important that we assign meaningful hostnames to our routers and switches. In this lab, you’ll demonstrate that you can successfully configure the hostname on a device.


You may use any router or switch to complete this exercise. It does not need to be connected to any other devices.

Task 1

Establish a console connection to your device.

Task 2

Depending on the type of device you’re using, set it’s hostname to either “core-router” or “core-switch”.

Task 3

Verify that the CLI prompt has changed and now shows the new hostname.
